Homework is given at the Upper School.  It is based on what has been taught in class.  It helps children to practise those skills and we encourage parents to take an interest in their child’s work.

All children at the Upper School take home books to be read for pleasure as well as practice and have a weekly spelling list to learn.  In Year 1 and Year 2 children have a 15-20 minute piece of English or Maths homework 3-5 times a week.  In Year 2 children have a weekly times table to practise.

7+ schools hold assessments during the second half of the Autumn term and first half of the Spring term of Year 2.  In order to prepare children for the 7+ we run a Mental Maths Club on Thursday mornings before registration (this runs throughout Year 2).  Individual homework activity packs are made available to parents in Year 1 who wish to keep their child's English and Maths skills ticking over during the summer break preceding the 7+. This arrangement is also in place for Year 2 parents during the Christmas break preceding the 7+.
